Integrative Psychiatry: A Path to Healing and Wholeness ~ Guest, Dr. Laila Contractor

Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James

“Psychiatry” might seem like a big word that is mostly associated with conversations to figure out someone’s mind, but it is a good bit more than that.  This week, Mara welcomes Dr. Laila Contractor to the podcast for a conversation about her own healing journey to physical and mental wellness, and how it led her to the field of Integrative Psychiatry.

Some of Dr. Laila Contractor’s earliest memories are with her grandfather, in his medical office talking to patients in India.  Very early in her life, he made an impression on her that truly listening to his patients did as much for them as the medicine he prescribed.

Dr. Laila’s experiences over the years led her to believe that a healthy mind was the most important aspect of a healthy life. She studied at several top medical schools and clinics in the nation, and worked with some of the biggest researchers in the field of psychiatry. She also worked with Kaiser Permanente for thirteen years where she helped develop their Teen Intensive Outpatient Program for those adolescents at-risk for hospitalization and suffering from significant depression amongst other issues.
The onset of a debilitating condition in 2019 took Dr. Laila into the field of integrative medicine through receiving treatment from Kelly McCann M.D./MPH at The Spring Center.  And it was with her brilliance, kindness, and amazing comprehensive, Integrative care that Dr. Laila started to find her way back to health.
Dr. Laila’s journey inspired her to complete an Integrative Psychiatry Institute Fellowship through the University of Colorado School of Medicine so she could offer her patients effective, research-based alternatives to traditional treatments.  Dr. Laila has built a practice that centers around partnership with children and families, to provide a holistic integrative evidence-based model for wellness with compassion and care for each unique individual.

Emotions In Motion ~ Guest, Dr. Greg Olsen

Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James

We all have them - emotions - whether we want to pay attention to them, or not. Research increasingly shows more evidence of our emotions having connection to our physical condition, and in turn, to our well being.  This week, Mara welcomes Dr. Greg Olsen to the podcast to share some of his insight and experience with what emotional healing can contribute to our bodies and our wellness.
After graduating from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in April 1994, Dr. Greg Olsen’s journey began into chiropractic practice. His primary target is to help people find or return to their optimal wellness and vitality, and he has been pursuing that from day one of his journey to building his integrative health practice.
As a Wellness Expert, Dr. Olsen finds that all health problems, like chronic pain, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, vertigo, back pain, neck pain, headaches or hypothyroid problems, have three causes – nutritional and chemical toxicity, hormones imbalance caused by stress, and trauma causing neurological damage. He witnesses on a daily basis that when we address these three causes, people get better.
Dr. Olsen is committed to helping all of his patients live a healthy and active life. He is incredibly passionate about empowering each patient with the knowledge and resources to take control of their health.  He knows that he was truly led to this life path and thanks God every day for the joy and privilege of being able to help people.

Connecting with Your Selves ~ Guest, Sepi Tabai
Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James

There is only one you, of course, and yet there are also many parts of you that may be stuck at various points in your life experiences, which can make it challenging to have a sense of self.  This week, Mara welcomes Sepi Tabai to the podcast for a conversation about re-integrating the parts of you to become more present in your life, have a greater sense of wholeness, and be actively participating in your wellness.

The limitlessness of life, with all of its potentialities, has been Sepi’s guide from a very young age. Sepi has studied many modalities to help her better understand the complexities of the human psyche.

As an IACT (International Association of Counselors and Therapists) certified integrated life coach and hypnosis, Sepi Tabai helps her clients explore the human potentiality that resides in them.  Sepi is also a Certified Facilitator with Identity Development Institute, based on the IoPT (Identity Orientated Psychotrauma Therapy) a technique that was developed by Dr. Franz Ruppert in Germany. As a certified Reiki master, Sepi works as a conduit helping her clients connect with their natural strength and the universal life energy. She also studied Buddhism and guides a weekly meditation circle. During each private session with her clients, Sepi holds the space with empathy and compassion, a place where incredible healing transformation becomes possible through the power of our human interconnectedness.

Reiki is a modality that has been in practice for centuries, yet not always been at the forefront of the public awareness.  This week, Mara welcomes Nicole Walter to the podcast to share her experiences as a Reiki Master and practitioner, and offer some insights into utilizing Reiki as a complementary tool to modern medicine.
Nicole Walter began her own healing journey 20 years ago to help navigate her crippling anxiety and stress. Can Our Emotions Help Us Heal? ~ Guest, Dr. Hank Williams

Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James

What role do our emotions play in our healing process?  Mara welcomes Dr. Hank Williams this week, to discuss his experiences using Neuro Emotional Technique (N.E.T.) in his practice, and what it supports his clients to achieve.

Dr. Hank Williams is a Doctor of Chiropractic and Founder of the Williams Wellness Center, in Laguna Beach, California.  His philosophy is to identify the cause of clients’ health problems and then work to remove the cause – not just treat the symptoms.  Dr. Hank believes “dis-ease” is caused by three components: structural, chemical (nutritional) and emotional insults to our body. He has the systems and the expertise to treat the causes of each of these components.

In his treatment of emotional and psychological illnesses, Dr. Hank has integrated Neuro Emotional Techniques into his practice.  It helps him treat conditions like depression, anxiety, ADD and ADHD and OCD. This allows the body to extinguish its emotionally laden responses and make it possible for you to respond in a healthier way.

Dr. Hank’s foundational philosophy is to care for the patient with the disease, not just the disease. He works to correct the cause, not just the effect. This approach allows his clients’ bodies to help him choose the best and most effective treatment that’s right for each client.
